A pastor asked a dying woman if she was going to heaven. She didn't know, so he explained to her the plan of salvation. She prayed to receive Jesus. Her son in law remarked that "nobody can really know if he/she is saved or not, the best you can do is to hope that you are saved." The pastor read 1 John 5:11-12 to the man. You can know for sure if you are saved or not. Assurance of one's salvation is important and comforting.
