Ephesians 5:21-6:9   Reading
Studies in the book of: Ephesians
Be filled with the Spirit - at home
Summary
Who are you when nobody is looking?
Three sets of relationship where we are 'filled with the Spirit' (v18)
1. Wives and Husbands. (v22-24) Submission in itself is not a bad thing, for even Christ will submit Himself to God. It is not about equality or worth - it is about a role. Wife, when she submits is still an equal. Abuse in marriage is not because of submission, but sin and the fall. Abuse is never OK and it is not God's plan. The Husband is to love his wife (25-30) - fundamental to leading. Self giving love will cost and directed to the wife's welfare. The ultimate marriage is Christ and the Church (v31,32).
2. Children and Parents. (6:1-3) Obey your parents - it will go well with you, if we obey God's command. The home is the perfect training ground for learning to submit to Christ. Fathers - (v4) failure to force issues or leave it all to his wife. Within the Church, be uncles, mothers to the those without them.
3. Slaves and Masters (6:5-9) If your are an employee be honest and diligent. Treat those under you with dignity. Our 'attitude' is important, especially with things we are obliged to do - 'learn to love what you have to do'.
