The resurrection of the dead
Summary
Lot of confusing articles, even by some ministers, about Easter. Christian doctrine is based on historical accounts, especially in regard to the resurrection.
1. What if there is no resurrection (v12). Implications (a) Christ did not rise, (b) Gospel is useless (c) Apostles are liars. (d) Most importantly - we are still in our sins (v16,17) (e) The dead are lost. The resurrection of Jesus means our sins are gone, and our guilt is covered. Why is the resurrection so important - then death won, then sin has won and there is no forgiveness. But Jesus overcame death and sin.
2. Christ indeed has been raised from death. Not just brought back to life but started something new (v20-23). The beginning and guarantee for all who trust in Him. All evil forces and powers will be dethroned. (v24-26). The guarantee is the resurrection. Revelation 21:4.
3. A hopeless end, or endless hope. If no resurrection then all that matters is what we see and touch (v32). This world is not all there is, and we are made for far than what we can see and touch. (compare v19). The struggle may be more real - but we are not to be pitied.
