The story of the 4 men who made a hole in the roof to let down their paralysed friend to Jesus. What did Jesus demonstrate:
1. He can forgive the man's sins. The scribe's logic was correct, ie God alone can forgive sins. Jesus verifies who He is, that He is God, and acts with the power of God.
2. He has the authority on earth to forgive sins. People of the day incorrectly said that all sickness was because of a person's sin. (compare John 9). Forgiveness is in response to faith in Him. Our sin is primarily a sin against God, and therefore it is He alone who can forgive us.
