Galatians 6:1-18   Reading
Studies in the book of: Galatians
Cross-focused Christianity
Summary
Good glasses (spectacles) enable us to see things more clearly.
The Cross enables us to see Christianity more clearly.
1. It makes us both humble or bold (5:26). (a) Some want to make themselves better by challenging others, or envious. Humility, is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself, less. We are heirs to King of the Universe. No need to compete with others. We are not to worry about 'pecking' orders. How do we think of ourselves?
(b) We have a responsibility to each other. (6:2, 10) The New Commandment (John 13:34) - love one another sacrificially. Our Christianity should not be individualistic, but relational. Who does v1 apply to? (compare 5:25). We are here to help each other in love.
(c) Christians are members of God's family. Book of Galatians is a severe book of alarm, but yet Paul calls them brothers and sisters many times. (eg., last verse in the book). The local church is our family. Unfortunately, many of us think individualistically.
2. We reap what we sow. (v7-10). Each day we are sowing something. (a) Diagnose our Christian life. Are we content in Jesus and Church family. What we are now is the product of what we have sown. (b) We can change by sowing differently. Plan for a better harvest. Parents - what are we teaching our children to plant. Paul's principle: (v14,15). What things really matter for eternity.
3. The centre of Christianity is the Cross. False teachers try to remove the cross. (v12-14). Christianity without the cross is a contradiction.
