The power of God
Summary
Sometimes we change things to make them more popular. Sometimes we try to do that with the Gospel.
1. The foolishness of the Cross. Today the opinion of Christians is considered 'unsound'. The Gospel has never been what the world wants to hear (v22). God does something different (v23). Christians can see the wisdom of God (v18). We all want to rule our own life, and the solution begins by admitting we are rebels.
2. The Power of the Cross. When we accept 'Jesus died for you' it is the power (v18, 23-25) to save. Two groups - Perishing or 'being saved'. Which are we? The foolishness of the cross is able to work the power of God in us and make us His child. The world wants a different type of power - one which we can control. (v17)
3. What is your boast? (v12 - the quarrels) They had become like the world -boasting in some famous leader. Christ is our only boast - whatever else we may have is of no eternal value (v30) - it is because of Him. Boast in the Lord (v31)
