Acts 10:1-11:30   Reading
Studies in the book of: Acts
The Gospel is for all people
Summary
1. The Gospel is for all. Cornelius as a soldier was an enemy of the Jewish nation (v1) - this is not someone who is likely to convert.
As a Gentile was a God-fearer (v2) and good man, well-respected - we my think he doesn't need to convert.
The sower sowed everywhere without distinction. Sow the Word of God widely and everywhere. The Gospel is for everyone. v34 - God does not show favouritism
2. Why doesn't God do it all Himself. He does so much here. And why get Peter from Joppa? Peter was an apostle, he came with authority - Cornelius was the first Gentile and they were equally welcome into His family. God uses us in the process, and we grow as we share. (Ephesians 2:12) Peter had to learn the Gentiles were now welcomed by God. (v28). In Acts 11 Peter explains this to the Church in Jerusalem (a) Vision (b) Spirit said 'go' (c) Cornelius had a vision (d) The Spirit came on the Gentiles in exactly the same way as He did on the Jewish believers.
3. What is our attitude towards others? Those who had persecuted spread the Gospel (11:19,20). Colossians 4:5 - Be wise, make the most of the opportunity. Our friends are people for whom Christ died. Pray that God will open our eyes and use us.
