Summary
How do we treat our wrong actions? And if we sin as a Christian, what do we do?
When Christian's fail - The epic fail of the Bible - King David. 2 Samuel 11,12 (Bathsheba). The prophet confronts David, and confesses his sin (Psalm 51).
1. Deal directly with God (Psalm 51:4) David had wronged many people. The attitude of our heart is really against God, even though others get hurt by our actions. This is the Good news - God will forgive.
2. To take responsibility for our failure. (v3-5). David doesn't blame anyone or make excuses. David saw he was guilty. It is up to us to choose how we respond to the circumstances around us. We can come to God for our forgiveness.
3. Our only hope is in God's mercy. (v1) David does not present all his previous good actions - no bargains. We can do nothing to cause God to love or forgive us. This means that no-one is beyond God's love.
4. And so we rejoice. The presence of unconfessed sins robs us of joy. The devil loves to drag out old failures, but God has removed them. David's reaction (v15). Note verse 17.
