Summary
Our culture is continually preaching at us and influencing us.
1. Critiquing our culture. In Corinth temple prostitute sex was acceptable. Because the law makes us free to do things, it doesn't mean it is acceptable to God. Our body is made for the Lord.
2. Flee sexual immoratity (v18)
(a) v15 - Members of Christ - we are implicating Jesus in our sinful actions. We are taking Jesus with us in whatever we do.
(b) v16-18 - Joined to Christ - Genesis 2 - we become one flesh. We are spiritually one with Christ - promiscuity breaks our relationship with Christ. (i) Understanding ourselves - recognise our areas of vulnerability. (ii) Understand others - need to look after each other. How we dress. We need to guard our conversation - mixed messages - flirting.
(c) We need to stop our thoughts before they become reality. Our thoughts will grow and dominate us.
3. Owned by Christ. V19. Our bodies are a gift from God, to be used to honour God. We need to (a) study the Scriptures daily, (b) not be over confident (c) be accountable.
