Are we making good investments for the future?
What difference would it make to our life if there is no resurrection?
1. Does the Bible contradict itself? Sadducees tried to use the Law of Moses to argue against the resurrection. (Deuteronomy 25:5). General Principle - never use one pert of the Bible to contradict another part. God is author of whole Bible and is consistent. The problem is more in our understanding, or our assumptions.
2. Marriage, resurrection, and Age to come. Mistakes by the Sadducees (a) That Marriage in this life is going to continue into the age to come. Children are a vital product of marriage, but this is not a requirement for the coming age. Romanticised version of heaven is lovers meeting again after death as if nothing had happened is totally wrong.
3. God of the Living. Second wrong idea of Sadducees is that they thought God's relation was temporary. God reveals Himself as having a current relationship with people who were long dead (Abraham, Isaac etc). God is a God of the living. Death is not the end, as the Sadducees taught.
Three implications (a) Materialist - who live just for the present 'stuff'. Many people live like this. (b) Our earthly relationships and marriages are not eternal. (c) Invest in what is permanent.
