The resurrection of the body
Summary
Difference between a house and tent. (2 Cor 5:1).
1. Our resurrection body. Our current bodies are not going to last forever - they are going to be changed. Our current bodies will not inherit heaven (v50). (a) God will change our bodies (example of seeds v37-38) and make it suit eternity (v42-44). The perfect body. The best is still ahead. (b) We will still be recognisable ourselves.(v37). We will keep our personhood and identity. We will perfected. We will recognise in heaven others who have died in Christ. (c) When do we get it. On judgement day when Christ returns. (v51-54). Paul mocks our final enemy 'death' (v54,55).
2. In the likeness of Jesus (v49) - Luke 24:37ff. We will not be ghosts, rather we will enjoy food, touch and feel things, not bound by time and space. What happened to Jesus, will happen to us. He is the 'first fruits'. Romans 6:9, Philippians 3:20,21
3. Therefore - confident about our future (v58) (a) Don't be moved from our faith. (b) Give yourself fully to God's work
