Justification is a central theme of Galatians. But, there is more! We are made Children of God.
1. We are Sons (v26,4:7). (Sons - includes the women - heirs). The emphasis is on Sonship because of Christ (v27) - clothed with Christ - our identity is bound up with Jesus. We have put on the Christ (v28) - one in Christ Jesus. No rankings, no 'pecking' order.
2. At Last. The false teachers were trying to add Old Testament hopes and promises (v29 - 4:6). These OT things pointed and are fulfilled in Christ.
3. Inside and Out - He has given us the Spirit of His Son (4:6,7). Real change is possible and inevitable because of the Spirit's work within us. Starts with us identifying God as Father (Abba - Aramaic word used by toddlers). This is an immense privilege and intimate. (Mark 14:36 - example of Jesus. In the Garden). Like a toddler who is dependant and obedient. This will be our new instinct as a Christian.
