Persisting in Prayer
Summary
Persistence. We struggle and have many failed resolutions. Prayer?
Jesus wants us to pray and not give up.
1. Commanded to pray. (because it is good for us).
2. Pray because we can. The character and situation of the judge and widow. The one source of official help is corrupt. He is exhausted by her, and gives her justice. Note two contrasts: (a) God is nothing like the unjust God.(v7). (b) We are not like the widow - we are God's chosen people. We keep coming back to God's character. Not saying to to disciples 'try harder' but think about God's character.
3. We need to pray. God is our only avenue to help, or willing to help. We like widow, and are in desperate need.
4. What do we pray? Anything. (a) What God desires eg Lord's prayer example, or Paul's prayer (Phil 1). (b) What is on our minds and concerns us.
