The right people for the job
Summary
How do we view ourselves? We are needed and a purpose in this world.
1. We already are these things, if we are follows of Jesus. This is not a wishful hope - it is the reality. We are designed for the purpose to be Salt and Light.
2. Salt. Emphasis not what the Salt does, but what the Salt is (ie, Salty).
3. Light. Emphasis here is on what the Light does (shines). Jesus is the Light, and we reflect His light. He assumes we will be doing good things. The good works are not the Light, but it shines on those good works and this directs them to God. People may not always responds positively to us.
4. Warning: don't try to stop what we are. Note what happens to unsalty salt, or light you cannot see. In the world, it is tempting not to stand out. But the world doesn't want us either.
