What makes for great faith?
Summary
Jesus was amazed at this man's faith. What makes for great faith:
1. Not seeing but hearing. He had heard of Jesus. You don't need to see to have great faith. Jesus was the man who could do the job. Faith comes by hearing.
2. Not about our worthiness, but Jesus' authority. This man had everything going for him.
3. What makes great faith. (a) A right understanding of Jesus. We often think God owes us. He chooses to bless us. (b) A right understanding of ourselves. Either sinners, or forgiven sinners. There is no place to think highly of ourselves.
Two wrong extremes: we are beyond hope or the presumption that God owes us. By faith we have been given full access to God.
